KYIV, Sept 27 (Reuters) – Russia attacked on Sunday the Kyivstar headquarters, the largest mobile operator in Ukraine, the company told local media, while Moscow continued bombardments of Ukraine’s data centers and communications infrastructure.
Kyivstar told Interfax-Ukraine news agency that its Kyiv headquarters had been hit, but there were no casualties.
The Russian Defense Ministry also announced on Sunday that it had hit a data center belonging to Vodafone Ukraine, the country’s second-largest mobile operator.
Vodafone Ukraine did not respond to requests for comment.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, said that Russia attacked a data center in Kyiv twice on Sunday morning, injuring two children and one adult.
Moscow also hit data centers belonging to Ukrainian internet providers last week, causing service outages for about 100,000 households in Kyiv and the surrounding region, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation.
“Russia is targeting Ukraine’s main data centers, seeking to disrupt the flow of information. Quick alerts about missile and drone threats are essential — they save lives,” wrote Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on X on Wednesday.
