5 September 2026

A Russian drone attack on Friday targeted the headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in central Kyiv, the president Volodymyr Zelensky said.

“Unfortunately, a Russian drone hit the central building of the Security Service of Ukraine on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv, in front of St. Sophia Cathedral,” he said on X after speaking with the interim head of the service, Oleksandr Poklad.

“The drone was directly aimed at the office of the head of the Security Service in that building.”

Five people were injured in the attack, the Kyiv mayor said on the Telegram app. A thick black smoke was rising from the scene.
