The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters that the most important is to address the socio-economic and humanitarian needs of the Cubans.

The Kremlin stated on Thursday that the situation in Cuba is worsening and urged restraint following a deadly incident involving a Florida-registered speedboat off the Caribbean island’s coast.

Cuban forces killed four exiles and wounded six others who were navigating Cuban waters aboard a speedboat on Wednesday and opened fire on a Cuban patrol, in an incident that Russia condemned as an “aggressive provocation by the United States” at a moment of rising tensions with Washington.

The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters that the most important is to address the socio-economic and humanitarian needs of the Cubans.

“The situation around Cuba, as we can see, is worsening. The main issue is the humanitarian component. All humanitarian concerns relating to Cuban citizens need to be resolved, and no one should create obstacles,” Peskov told reporters.

“As for security around the island, it is clear that it is very important for everyone to remain restrained and to refrain from any provocative action.”
