SpaceX Conducts Starship Test Flight Amid Anticipated IPO

23 May 2026

SpaceX was conducting, on Friday the 22nd, the launch of the latest version of Starship. The rocket launch took place from Starbase, in Texas.

Images of the Starship launch were streamed live. The flight is the 12th test of the Starship vehicle since 2023, but the first of this year.

The main objective of the test will be to demonstrate the new components in a flight environment for the first time, with each element of the Starship architecture presenting significant revisions to enable full and rapid reuse, incorporating lessons from years of development and testing.

Starship is a centerpiece of SpaceX’s aim to attract investors, while the company prepares for an initial public offering (IPO) that could value it at US$1.5 trillion or more. The rocket was designed to launch Starlink satellites, deploy the AI-powered satellite fleet that the company intends to create, and sustain the exploration dreams of CEO Elon Musk.
