The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, stated that no foreign power governs the country, rejecting suggestions that the United States had taken control.
Rodríguez spoke during an official broadcast on Tuesday (6), seeming to respond to comments by President Donald Trump, who said Washington would oversee Venezuela during a leadership transition.
“We are here governing together with the people, and no one else,” Rodríguez said on state television. “There is no external agent governing Venezuela.”
The statements underscore the power struggles for control in Venezuela after Trump asserted that the U.S. would administer the country temporarily following the capture of Nicolás Maduro, even though the Venezuelan political and military leadership remained in power and opposed intervention.
Earlier on Tuesday, the U.S. Vice President, JD Vance, said in an interview on the program “Scott Jennings” that “whomever” is the leader of Venezuela “will have to play by the United States’ rules.”
