U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the night of Thursday, the 5th, a new site to help Americans directly purchase selected medications at a discount. The news of the launch of the new platform, TrumpRx, had already been anticipated by the White House earlier that afternoon.
“Starting today, dozens of the most commonly prescribed medications will be available at dramatic discounts for all consumers through a new site, TrumpRx.gov,” Trump said at a White House event. He was accompanied by the Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Mehmet Oz, and the government’s Chief Design Officer, Joe Gebbia.
The Republican also stated that the U.S. subsidized medications for the rest of the world, “but that will no longer happen.” Among the partners for the project are pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk and Pfizer.
