WASHINGTON, September 30 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he continues to hold talks about a ban on diesel exports “every day,” as the White House presses to curb the dizzying rise in energy prices.
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump said that a ban on exports “would have a negative impact on gasoline prices,” but could reduce diesel costs. He stated that the war between Ukraine and Russia, with attacks from both sides affecting production and energy exports, is the main cause of the rise in diesel prices and added: “we think we are in a very good position.”
Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the disruptions were more widespread.
“We have lost some diesel exports from the Middle East, though we are restoring those, and we have lost the diesel exports from China. Therefore, there are many disruptions,” Wright said.
He said the government expected announcements soon from Europe about new diesel supplies.
