Trump Says U.S.-Canada Trade Deal Should Be Finalized Soon

14 September 2026

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Saturday (12) that Canada is interested in reaching a trade pact with the U.S. and that a deal could be closed “soon,” while reiterating complaints that Canada had treated American farmers unfairly and should remove tariffs.

“Canada is very interested in closing a deal,” Trump said in response to questions from the press after a meeting with the Irish Prime Minister, Micheal Martin, in Dublin.

“Canada needs to treat our farmers better. They cannot charge tariffs on our farmers,” Trump said, adding: “You’ll probably see a deal with Canada soon.”
