Trump Says U.S. Is Winning the War, Renames the Strait of Hormuz as ‘Trump Strait’

27 March 2026

The U.S. president, Donald Trump, reiterated on the night of this Friday, the 27th, that he is winning the war in Iran and that the Persian country must reopen the Strait of Hormuz, after calling the important stretch of the largest oil flow the “Trump Strait.” The American leader also said that the incursion into Iran is not a war, but a military operation.

“They need to open the Trump Strait,” the president stated in a speech at an event in Miami, after referring to the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America at the request of the American government.

Trump also said that Iran itself confirmed that negotiations with the U.S. are underway, “two days after” the first public denial made by Iranian authorities. According to him, none of the remaining Iranian leadership wants to take the helm of the government after the deaths carried out by the U.S. and Israel.

“We are closer than ever to the rise of the Middle East,” said Trump, without specifying what that rise would entail. “We will free the Middle East from the radical Iranian regime,” he added.

The White House chief praised the resilience of Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait and commented on the bombings that Iran has carried out against countries in the Persian Gulf. According to the American leader, no one expected the Persian country to attack its neighbors, but rather only Israel. “They are not using their missiles as much as at the start of the conflict,” said Trump in reference to Iran.
