The United Kingdom intends to amend the legislation governing sanctions against Iran to allow harsher penalties against the Persian country, according to a document published on Tuesday, the 8th. The legislative amendment will expand trade restrictions and the powers to sanction ships that have links with Tehran’s nuclear program and other activities classified as “hostile” by the government, army, and Iranian armed groups.
Among the measures are restricting Iran’s access to the British financial system, expanding the goods, technologies, and services listed as prohibited for trade, and prohibiting Iranian aircraft from landing in the United Kingdom unless they are part of some exception.
According to Reuters, the legislative amendment is part of a plan announced by the British government to reinstate United Nations sanctions against Iran. The measures still need to be approved by the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
