The United Kingdom will contribute drones, fighters, and a warship to the Multinational Protection Mission for the Strait of Hormuz, Britain’s Defence Secretary John Healey announced in a statement on Tuesday, the 12th.

“The United Kingdom will mobilize autonomous mine-hunting equipment and cutting-edge counter-drone systems, in addition to Typhoon fighters and the HMS Dragon, as part of a future defensive mission to secure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” the note states. These capabilities will enable the United Kingdom to make meaningful contributions should they be needed.

According to the text, the defensive mission, which will become operational when conditions permit, includes 115 million pounds in new funding for mine-hunting drones and counter-drone systems.
