The White House’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, are set to meet this Friday in Istanbul, Turkey, alongside representatives from various Arab and Muslim countries, to discuss a possible nuclear agreement, said people familiar with the matter to AAxios.
According to reports, the weekend meeting is “the best possible scenario,” but nothing is decided until it takes place. In a post on X, Axios reporter Barak Ravid noted that an American official stated that the summit would focus on attempting to craft a package of measures that would avert war. “The official stressed that the Trump administration hopes Iran will attend the meeting willing to make the necessary concessions,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, in another post on X, the Al Jazeera reported that, according to Iran’s Intelligence Minister Esmaeil Khatib, the negotiations are being conducted “based on national interests and the instructions of the National Security Council.”
