According to the United States, commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman have long been at risk of being boarded, questioned, detained, or seized by Iranian forces.
The U.S. Department of Transportation on Monday, the 9th, recommended that American-flagged commercial vessels remain as far as possible from Iran’s territorial sea, and that, when transiting eastward through the Strait of Hormuz, vessels should pass closer to Oman’s territorial sea.
According to the department, commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman have long been at risk of being boarded, questioned, detained, or seized by Iranian forces.
“The U.S. government is continuously assessing the maritime security situation in the region to identify and differentiate threats, safeguard freedom of navigation, ensure the free flow of commerce, and protect American vessels, personnel and interests,” it added.

If approached by Iranian forces, the agency advises U.S.-flagged vessels to provide the name of the vessel and the flag state, as well as not to resist any possible boarding by the group.
