The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in the early hours of this Saturday (5) that the country’s armed forces had managed to rescue the pilot of a fighter jet shot down in Iran. In a post on the Truth Social network, he called the operation one of the boldest in the country’s military history.
“We rescued him! In the last few hours, the United States armed forces conducted one of the boldest search-and-rescue operations in the country’s history for one of our crew officers, a highly respected colonel, who is now safe and sound,” the president declared.
According to Trump, the service member was in a critical situation, hidden in enemy territory and pursued by local forces while awaiting rescue.
“That brave warrior was behind enemy lines, in the treacherous mountains of Iran, hunted by our enemies, who were approaching hour by hour. But he was never alone, as his location was monitored 24 hours a day, while we diligently planned his rescue,” he wrote.
The president stated that the operation involved a large military apparatus, including aircraft equipped with heavy weapons. The pilot, according to him, was injured, but not in danger.
“Under my order, the United States military sent dozens of aircraft, armed with the world’s most lethal weapons, to rescue him. He was injured, but he will be fine,” he said.
Trump also revealed that another pilot had already been rescued previously, but the information was kept confidential to avoid compromising the new mission.
“This operation comes after the successful rescue of another pilot yesterday, which we did not confirm earlier to avoid putting the second operation at risk. It is the first time that two American pilots have been rescued separately in deep enemy territory,” he said.
The president also stressed that no casualties were reported in the two operations and attributed the success to the United States’ air superiority.
“The fact that we were able to carry out both operations without the death of a single American proves that we have achieved air dominance and superiority over the skies of Iran,” he wrote.
Finally, Trump made a call for national unity and praised the country’s armed forces.
“This is a moment that all Americans — Republicans, Democrats and others — should be proud of and come together. We have the best and most professional Army in the history of the world,” he concluded.
