Iran sent on Tuesday (7) to the United States a 10-point proposal for ending the war. According to President Donald Trump, the document is “a viable basis for negotiation,” and its reception led to a suspension of attacks and to the implementation of a ceasefire across the region.
The proposal was not fully disclosed by either side, but its contents were revealed by the Iranian National Security Council to state media and reported by Al Jazeera. Here are eight of the ten points included:
- Control of passage through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces, ensuring to the country a strategic economic and geopolitical position;
- End of the war against all elements of the so-called “Axis of Resistance”;
- Withdrawal of American combat forces from all bases and points of operation in the region; Establishment of a safe transit protocol through the Strait of Hormuz, guaranteeing Iranian supremacy under the terms agreed;
- Full payment of compensation for damages caused to Iran;
- Suspension of all primary and secondary sanctions, as well as resolutions of the Board of Governors and the Security Council;
- Release of all Iranian goods and properties frozen abroad;
- Ratification of the terms in a binding Security Council resolution.
Iranian media also reported that another point of the proposal provides for the continuation of uranium enrichment by the country — precisely one of the main targets of U.S. criticism.
The item raises questions about the success of the negotiations, as Iran has signaled that it will only agree to end the conflict after the complete definition of the terms set forth in the peace plan.
Thus, the Iranian government notes that the opening of talks, scheduled for this Friday (10) in Islamabad, does not necessarily represent the end of the war.
