What Marked the 38th Day of War in the Middle East

6 April 2026

The war between the United States and Israel against Iran has reached its 38th day, and on Monday (the 6th) President Donald Trump issued harsh threats toward the Persian country. The American stated that Iran “could be taken in one night” and suggested that this could happen as early as Tuesday.

In his afternoon address, Trump set Tuesday night (the 7th) as the final deadline for Iran to accept an agreement and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, the proposal put forward by Tehran so far “is not enough.”

The U.S. president also said that Washington could take Iran’s place and begin charging a fee for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump acknowledged that Iran is a strong adversary, “but not as strong as it was a month ago.”

On Monday, the United States and Iran received a proposal for an immediate ceasefire, reopening of Hormuz, and a definitive peace agreement. The document was drafted by negotiators from Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey. According to sources cited by Reuters, Tehran rejected reopening the strait. The White House, for its part, said that this was only one of the proposals circulating and did not back the immediate ceasefire, according to Axios.

“Delusional Threats”

Iran reacted to Trump’s threats by calling them “delusional.” In a statement sent to local media, the Iranian military command said that the statements by the American president will not compensate for the “shame and humiliation” of the U.S. in the region.

After the ultimatum, Tehran also stated that the Strait of Hormuz will never be the same again, “especially for the United States and Israel.”

On Monday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed that its intelligence chief, Majid Khademi, was killed in an Israeli attack and promised retaliation with new attacks. Khademi’s predecessor had already been killed in 2025, in a joint action by Israel and the United States.

The country also accused the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of inaction in the face of attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities and said that the agency’s stance “encourages aggression” by the U.S. and Israel.

“Attacks Continue”

Earlier, Israel attacked the largest petrochemical facility in Iran’s South Pars gas field.

A series of attacks left at least 25 people dead in Iran, while the Houthis, Yemen’s rebel group, joined Hezbollah in Lebanon and Iran itself in offensives against Israel. In Lebanese territory, Israeli bombardments killed at least three people.

By night, Bahrain reported that air-raid sirens were triggered, and Saudi Arabia said it had intercepted four missiles.
