Sept. 22 (Reuters) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia is planning a new large-scale attack against his country, in statements published on Tuesday.
Zelensky, in a Telegram post about his meeting with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on the margins of the UN General Assembly, said that Ukraine maintains constant communication with its allies to secure new air defense systems.
“There are intelligence indications at this moment that Russia is preparing a new large-scale attack against Ukraine,” Zelensky wrote.
He stated that there could be no discussion about easing sanctions against Russia “while Ukrainians live every day under the threat of missile and drone attacks.”
Russian forces have long carried out large-scale nighttime attacks with drones and missiles, but have altered their tactics in recent weeks, launching sustained bursts throughout the day.
Moscow also, in recent months, deployed jet-powered drones, which fly at higher altitudes and bypass air defenses, harming commercial activities, the government, and daily life on a much larger scale than previously in this war that has now lasted four and a half years.
