The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, said earlier on X that his country had completed repairs on the Druzhba pipeline, which carries oil from Russia to Hungary and Slovakia, passing through Ukrainian territory. The facilities were damaged by attacks in August 2025. Citing a sector source, Reuters news agency reported that operations are expected to resume on the afternoon of this Wednesday, the 22nd.
“The pipeline can return to operation,” said Zelensky. “Although no one can at this moment guarantee that Russia will not repeat attacks, our experts have ensured the basic conditions for restoring the functioning of the system,” he added.
The resumption of the pipeline’s operations could pave the way for the release of a 90 billion euro aid package from the European Union to Ukraine, which had been blocked by Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, defeated by Péter Magyar in an election held on April 12.
“It is essential that the European aid package for Ukraine be unlocked. There can be no further justification for blocking it. The EU asked Ukraine to repair the Druzhba pipeline, which had been destroyed by Russia. We repaired it. We hope that the EU also fulfills the commitments agreed,” Zelensky said.
